Jason McGrath – Director & Town Planner

Jason McGrath - Director & Town Planner Jason McGrath is a qualified town planner with over 14 years experience in the property development industry. Jason worked for Cairns City Council and Gold Coast City Council as a statutory town planner and eventually was appointed Supervisor for all property development within the southern region of the Gold Coast. Jason’s diverse exposure and expertise within this industry have been instrumental in delivering projects such as Q1, Aria, Chevon Renaissance and Emerald Lakes.

Jason left Council in 2003 and became a Director for a private consultancy firm, establishing the town planning arm of the firm and specialising in the successful delivery of high rise and mixed use developments. As a Director with UPS, Jason has been fundamental to the success of such major developments as The Oracle, Reflection Towers 1 & 2, Nirvana, Southport Central, Verve, Oceans, Alchemy and Bermuda Point. Jason has established himself as the foremost planner and project manager for significant high rise and mixed use development projects on the Gold Coast.

Michael Nash – Director & Town Planner

Michael Nash - Director & Town Planner Michael Nash is a qualified town planner with 12 years experience in the development industry and worked for a private town planning consultancy firm on the Gold Coast before joining Council in 1996. In that capacity he worked on complex residential and mixed use projects that ranged from low rise to high rise such as Emerald Lakes, Glenwood Park, the Sundale Urban Village and the Coral Gardens mixed use development in Broadbeach Waters.

From 1998 to 2005 Michael held the Council position of Coordinator Technical Services in the Economic Development and Major Projects Directorate and was charged with managing large scale projects that were complex, politically sensitive and broadened the economic base of the City, created employment and enhanced the City’s image.

These projects included the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, Gold Coast Marine Precinct, Gold Coast Harbour Study and Hope Island Local Area Plan. Since establishing UPS, Michael has been involved in a wide range of high profile residential and mixed use developments such as the $12.5 billion Marina Quays development at Hope Island, Santa Cruz Central Urban Village at Clear Island Waters, Seachange Over 50’s Resort at Arundel, Gold Coast Marine Development project on the Southport Spit, Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre expansion and Kirra Central, a 10 storey mixed use high rise tower.

Michael Falk – Director & Town Planner

Michael Falk - Director & Town Planner

Michael Falk is a registered town planner with the Planning Institute of Australia and has a Bachelor Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of New England, New South Wales.

With 20 years of town planning experience, Michael Falk has worked in both the public and private sectors, including 10 years as a town planner for Gold Coast City Council. During his time at Council, Michael held various positions including Supervisor Special Projects and Coordinator Design Services for the Economic Development and Major Projects Directorate. In these roles he was responsible for managing the assessment of major development applications of significant scale, complexity and/or political sensitivity.

Since founding UPS, Michael has been retained by high profile companies (including Woolworths, Meriton, Brookfield Multiplex, ASF, Balmain, KordaMentha, PPB Advisory, Tasman Marinas, Raptis Group Limited and private high net worth individuals) to provide town planning and project strategy services on some of the Gold Coast’s signature developments many of which achieved new industry benchmarks and added considerable value to client’s assets.

Key projects include Hilton Hotel, Southport Central, Brighton on Broadwater, Runaway Bay Marina, ANA Twin Towers, Iluka, Gold Coast International Towers and The Spit Integrated Resort Development.

Michael also has extensive retail experience acting for Woolworths across Queensland.

 

Geoff Hiddleston – Senior Town Planner

Geoff Hiddleston - Principal Advisor/Senior Town PlannerGeoff is a Gold Coast Town Planner with over 26 years’ experience on the Gold Coast working in both the public and private sectors.
Relevant Project Experience:
Geoff has specific experience in the development of strategic planning initiatives, having been integral in;
• Development of the Griffith University Knowledge Precinct concept which would become the basis for the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct.
• Development of the Gold Coast Marine Precinct concept.
• Development of the Yatala Enterprise Area Local Area Plan.
• Development of the Surfers Paradise Area Local Area Plan.
• Development of the Steiglitz Marine Precinct Investigation Area project strategy.
Relevant Technical Skills:
• 26 years of experience in Town Planning and Urban Development experience associated with numerous strategic plans, development plans and master plan throughout SEQ as well as the preparation and assessment of statutory planning application from both a public and private sector position.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of the expectations, processes and procedures used by Government and the community to achieve successful outcomes.
• Proven understanding of the necessary methodologies to develop strategies for the delivery of large scale public and private sector projects.
• Thorough understanding of the statutory planning regime in operation on the Gold Coast.
• Strong understanding of the Gold Coast Community both as a long term resident and local professional planner.
• Strong connections and professional working relationships with State and Local Government Officers.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team to achieve the goals of the project.

Amanda Hosken – Senior Town Planner

Amanda Hosken - Senior Town PlannerAmanda Hosken is a senior town planner who joined UPS in March 2008. Amanda has over 7 years experience in the development industry with extensive experience in the public sector as a senior town planner and then supervising town planner at Gold Coast City Council. Amanda has experience in a range of diverse development applications from large scale master planned communities in the northern part of the city, to large scale mixed use high rise development in the coastal part of the city. At Gold Coast City Council, Amanda was involved in the assessment of a number of complex projects from both a land use and subdivision perspective, including the Broadbeach Lifestyle Centre, Soul, Sierra Grande, Emerald Lakes, Marina Quays, and Genesis.

Leanne Croft – Senior Town Planner

Leanne has over 19 years’ of planning experience and has worked within the Queensland, New South Wales, and UK planning systems in both the public and private sectors.  Leanne has completedLeanne Croft - cropped a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning and is a member of the Planning Institute of Australia.

Relevant Experience:
Leanne has extensive experience in town planning and development application processes, with experience including:
•  Assessment of a wide range of subdivision, rezoning and master-planned projects throughout Gold Coast City, during her 4 years at Gold Coast City Council
•  Managing the development application process for a wide range of development projects, including medium-rise and high-rise developments, residential subdivisions and mixed use development throughout Gold Coast City and northern New South Wales, whilst working in a Gold Coast based planning consultancy for over 4 years
•  Assessment of a wide range of development projects within Byron Shire, during 3 years spent working at Byron Shire Council; an
•  Working as a consultant acting for high-profile developers, on a range of housing, retail and mixed use developments throughout Greater London and East Anglia, whilst based in the UK.

Relevant Technical Skills:
•Over 8 years of Town Planning and Urban Development experience in SEQ (predominantly in the Gold Coast) in the both the public and private sectors with a wide range of development projects;
•Sound knowledge and understanding of the expectations, processes and procedures operating in the development industry, and used by Government and the community to achieve successful outcomes;
•Sound understanding of the planning regime in operation on the Gold Coast and in Queensland; and
•Demonstrated ability to lead a team to achieve desired project outcomes.

Scott Barrett – Senior Town Planner

Scott Barrett is a Senior Town Planner who joined UPS in February 2018. Scott has over 8 years experience in the development industry with extensive experience in the public sector as a Senior Town Planner in both Planning Assessment and Planning Appeals and Research. Scott has experience in a range of diverse development applications from large scale Shopping Centre Developments, to large scale mixed use high rise development along the coastal spine of the city. At Gold Coast City Council, Scott was involved in the assessment of a number of complex projects including the Runaway Bay Marina, Jupiters Casino redevelopment and Coomera Town Centre

Michelle Clark – Personal Assistant and Graphic Design

Michelle Clark commenced with UPS in 2017 and is a Personal Assistant and a Graphic Design specialist, having over 20 years experience with a top tier News Corporation. Michelle now assists with development applications of various sizes from the Meriton Group to private dwelling developments. She also designs site analysis graphics, puts together backgrund research for particular developments and is on hand to help out the UPS Team.

Bruce Bradford – IT Manager & Graphic Design

Bruce Bradford - IT Manager & Graphic DesignA history of working for Barristers and Law Firms has fostered strong exposure to Property, Family, Criminal, Corporate, Commercial, Banking, Insolvency and Intellectual Property Law; before finally cementing in Planning and Environment and Development Law. Bruce was instrumental in the finalisation of now-built major high rise projects (Oracle, The Hilton Surfers Paradise, Southport Central and Soul) among others; as well as major projects (one being $5 Billion). Bruce is now assists in the day to day management of the large development applications having critical exposure to media and top-tier Government critique (Jewel), and enjoys being our in-house graphic design specialist and IT Manager.
